I have much information on this early Bourbon County family and will post it in installments on the mailing list. I am not descended from this line but the Gallatin County, KY Bealls as well as other lines in Missouri are so it may help someone.

Archibald Beall of Bourbon County and Some Descendants by Genevieve Beall Nichols Porter. This was sent to me by someone from the Kenton County Library archives.

Archibald Beall lies buried in the center of a well kept cemetery at North Middleton, Bourbon County, Kentucky, beneath a large white shaft which is inscribed "warriors Last Shield". This shaft was erected by the Daughters of the American revolution in memory of his services in the Revolution. He was one of the few survivors of the Battle of Blue Licks.

In his application for a pension made November 5, 1833, there is given a full record of his Revolutionary service, as he recalled it. Archibald Beall enlisted in the cause for freedom in June of 1776 in Bedford County, VA. He was then a young man between nineteen and twenty years of age. He campaigned against the Cherokee Indians on the Western frontier, serving until 1783 when his last term of enlistment expired. He was at this time in the Militia at Louisville, Kentucky, under Lieutenant John smith.

Archibald Beall died July 31, 1840, at the age of eighty-four. His birth date is given as Oct. 4, 1756.

At the close of the Revolutionary War, Archibald Beall went to Bourbon County, Kentucky where he settled on land which he cleared and on which he built a log cabin. The Beall home is still standing, now known as the William McCrary home on North Middletown and Clintonville Pike. The original log cabin has been surrounded by later buildings. It was well built with joists of ash, cheery, maple and walnut. The front stairway in curly maple and the doors are walnut with pine panels.

Archibald Beall and Mildred Crews were married in Fayette County, KY in March 1785. She was the daughter of David and Anna McGhee Crews. At the time of his daughter's marriage David Crews was operating a ferry at the mouth of Jack's Creek on the Kentucky River.
