Notes for JOSEPH CULBERTSON: [1]
From the History of Callaway Co. Mo. Chapter Vl. page 149
Joseph Culbertson, was born in Pennsylvania, but removed to Bourbon Co. Ky. He was married first to Elizabeth Martin, by whom he had Samuel, John, Joseph, Alexander, Robert, Patsey, and Polly. He was married the second time to a Miss McClannahan, by whom he had four children. Samuel, John, Robert, and Polly settled in Indiana. Patsey married and removed to Ohio. Joseph was married in 1829, to Sallie A. Griffen, of Kentucky, and settled in Callaway county, Missouri, in 1832. Their children are Joseph M., James A. G., Amanda J., Rosa E., Mary A., Sarah A., William T., and Samuel A.
Notes: The first Joseph Culbertson mentioned above is the Joseph Culbertson Sr. I believe that there are many mistakes in the genealogy. First I believe that Robert Culbertson is the son of Elizabeth McClanahan Culbertson and not that of Elizabeth Martin and Joseph Culbertson Sr. There is a land deed dated 1830 where Joseph Culbertson Sr and wife Elizabeth sell land to John McClanahan and Robert Culbertson located on the Hingston Fork of the Licking River part of William Steele's pre-emption located in Bourbon Co. Ky.
Second mistake I see is that Samuel mention as the son of Joseph Culbertson Jr. and wife Sallie Griffen (Griffith daughter of Martin Griffith and Elizabeth Ardery). Should be Saphronia, daughter of Elizabeth McClannahan Culbertson by her first marriage to Robert McClanahan May 31, 1798 in Bourbon Co. Ky. They also had John and Margaret McClanahan. And I believe that Robert Culbertson is Elizabeth's son by her marriage to Jospeh Culbertson Sr. Oct. 29, 1810 Bourbon Co. Ky.
I do not know if Joseph Culbertson Sr. has a daughter Margaret (Patsey) also. So that could be a mistake as well. As Elizabeth McClanahan Culbertson's daughter married and moved to Indiana (Margaret married Thomas Long in Bourbon Co. Ky 1819). And this on is said to have married and moved to Ohio. So could be two Patsey's. However I don't believe there are two son's of Elizabeth McClanahan Culbertson named John.
Also on the 1850 census of Callaway Co. Mo. Joseph Culbertson Jr.'s wife is named Mary Ann age 37. Don't have a record for Sallie's death or the second marriage of Joseph Jr. So don't know how many of these children are Sallie's and how many are Mary Ann's as the three youngest weren't born till after 1850. So Mary Ann is the mother of those for sure. And possible some of the others if not all of them.

Note: The ages do not match in other information I have on Joseph Jr's families ages. The adults are older in 1840 than 1840? And children's ages don't match either, could this be another Joesph Culbertson or is there mistakes in the census?
1850 Census Callaway Co., Mo.Joseph Culbertson was a step brother to John McClanahan. And a brother in law to John McClanahan.
